Norman Malcolm

Norman Malcolm came to Voorhees Associates following a 36
year career in the Fire Service. Norm began his career with the
Village of Palatine Fire Department in 1975. He rose through the
ranks from Firefighter, Paramedic, Lieutenant, Captain and Deputy
Chief before being appointed Chief of the Department in
1998.
During his
tenure as Chief, Norm oversaw the construction of two new fire
stations and the growth of the organization by almost 50 %. Chief
Malcolm also valued regional cooperation by negotiating mutual
response agreements with Long Grove, Palatine Rural, Rolling
Meadows and Arlington Heights Fire Departments. Agreements for
sharing of reserve equipment and special team members were also
accomplished.
Chief
Malcolm was a member of the Northwest Community Hospital Advisory
Board, Palatine Township Health Advisory Board, and Vision In
Progress. He also served as President of MABAS Division One for 3
years.
After
retiring from Palatine in 2009, Chief Malcolm accepted the Interim
Fire Chief post in the Village of Streamwood Illinois. In his
fourteen months there he implemented a new training program, a
company inspection program, a successful contract negotiation, and
key staff promotions. He also was involved in the recruitment
process for the new Fire Chief.
Norm is a
graduate of Northern Illinois University, with a Bachelor of Arts
Degree. He has numerous training certifications including Fire
Officer III and the University of Maryland Staff and Command
School. Norm also has experience as a Building Inspector for the
Village of Palatine. He previously worked as a teacher and coach
before entering the Fire Service.
Norm has
been actively involved in the Palatine Rotary Club, Men’s Civic
Club and Catholic Charities Northwest. He also has been involved in
coaching youth sports in the
Palatine community.
